Cotton prints, calico print, chintz, indienne ("A dear child has many names." as we say in swedish) got very popular in Europe in the 1700s and was imported in large scale from India and other places like Persia and Java. When they couldnt import enough cotton prints to cover the demand many new factories started to imitade the beutiful designs from east and added their own touch in the designs.
Many Swedish folk costumes has cotton prints, often red prints from austria that can be find in many places over Europe. A fabric that brings cultures together!
